University Of Chicago Scientists Provide New Evidence For Cellular Cause Of SIDS

Approximately 3,000 infants die each year from SIDS, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

In the March 8, 2006, issue of the journal Neuroscience, researchers describe what happens during hypoxia when levels of the hormone serotonin are disturbed in pacemaker cells – the specific group of neurons they previously showed to be responsible for gasping, which resets the normal breathing pattern for babies. Avian Flu Crisis BMO Nesbitt Burns Economic Update

Avian flu is spreading rapidly in the bird population, but it is still extremely difficult for humans to become infected.

According to Dr. Sherry Cooper, Chief Economist, BMO Nesbitt Burns, there is a good deal of misinformation triggering unnecessary fear and economic cost. Human infection generally requires direct exposure to sick or dead poultry. This is most likely in areas where backyard birds live in close contact with people – generally in parts of Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Howard Stern Has Been A Big Plus For Sirius

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. — Howard Stern may have helped Sirius satellite radio, but his former AM/FM competitors have emerged as the bigger winners. The results of a new web poll survey conducted by Rock radio consultants Jacobs Media, consisting of over 25,000 respondents from over 75 Rock-formatted stations from all over the U.S., show that Howard Stern’s move to Sirius has helped that satellite radio company match or surpass the subscriber rate of rival XM among Rock radio listeners. But approximately 70% of Stern’s regular listeners acknowledge they’re now listening to his old competitors, commercial radio morning shows in local markets. The survey was conducted in late February, about 5-6 weeks after Stern’s debut on Sirius.
